Frances Wilkins has been giving lectures on many aspects of Scottish music and ethnomusicology including fiddle traditions, Scots and Gaelic singing, Scottish music history, soundscapes studies, fieldwork techniques, and sacred music since 2005. She is a visiting lecturer in Aberdeen University's Department of Music, and from 2010-2011 worked as a guest lecturer at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock in North-East Germany.
She has lectured at universities including Aberdeen University, the University of Limerick, Jagiellonian University Krakow, the University of Rostock, and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock. She also gives workshop seminars in Traditional Scottish Music and Learning and Teaching Traditional Music by Ear.
